A single point straight side press features a left-to-right bed dimension that is fundamentally narrower than a double crank equivalent. Because the machine uses only one eccentric gear or crankshaft throw to push a single pitman arm, 100% of the machine's kinetic energy is driven directly into the center of the slide. This translates to incredible bottom-dead-center stiffness. When stamping thick materials, the "snap-through" force—the violent shockwave created when the punch fractures the material—is easily absorbed by the rigid four-pillar frame and the massive single pitman.
