Used Straight Side Double Crank Presses in Stock

A straight side double crank press, or two point press, is a closed-frame mechanical stamping press with two connections (pitmans) driving one long slide, one near each end. The crankshaft or eccentric shaft runs across the crown and turns both connections together, so the slide stays level even when the die pushes harder on one side than the other. It's the workhorse press for progressive dies and the most common type of straight side press. Every press on this page is owned and warehoused by us in Jackson, Michigan or Columbia, Tennessee, so you can ask for a video or schedule an in-person inspection with your salesperson before you buy.

We keep about 150 straight side double crank presses in stock, most between 150 and 350 tons, with beds from about 30" to over 200" right to left, plus complete transfer press lines. Komatsu and Minster are the builders we carry most, followed by Niagara, Bliss, Verson, Blow, Stamtec and Warco, and we sell new Komatsu double crank presses, including servo models.

Why Two Points?

A progressive die rarely loads the slide evenly. Piercing, forming and cut-off stations each push at a different spot along the die, and the load center often isn't in the middle. With a single connection, that off-center load tips the slide, wearing the gibs and the die. With two connections spread across the slide, a double crank press resists tipping and keeps the slide parallel to the bolster from end to end, which protects the die and holds part tolerances. Each connection carries about half the press's rated tonnage, so check the press's off-center load capacity if your load center sits far from the middle.

Sizing a Press for a Progressive Die

CheckWhat to look at
Total tonnageAdd up every station (blanking, piercing, forming, stripper and pad springs), then add a safety margin of about 20% to 30%.
Load centerWhere the combined load sits along the die. The further off center it is, the more the press's off-center capacity matters.
Bed and slide lengthThe full die length plus clamping room, and a front-to-back depth for the die and the strip.
Window openingsSide openings in the uprights wide enough to feed the coil strip in and carry parts or scrap out.
Stroke and shut heightEnough stroke for strip lift and forming depth; shut height and slide adjustment to fit the die.
SpeedAn SPM range that suits the die and material, and a servo feed that can keep up.

Features Worth Paying For

  • Wet clutch and brake. Runs cooler, quieter and with less maintenance than a dry air clutch on high-volume work.
  • Motorized slide adjustment. Adjusts both connections together for fast, square die setting.
  • Hydraulic overload. Protects the press and an expensive progressive die on a double hit or misfeed.
  • Air counterbalance. Carries the slide and upper die weight for smooth running and easy adjustment.
  • Variable speed drive. Matches SPM to each die and material.
  • Die cushion and rolling bolsters. A cushion for draw work; rolling bolsters for quick die changes.

Single Crank, Double Crank or Gap Frame Double Crank?

A straight side single crank press suits compact dies with the load in the middle, like heavy blanking or coining. A straight side double crank is the choice for long progressive dies and off-center loads. For lighter work where open access matters, a gap frame double crank press gives two points on a C-frame.

Straight Side Double Crank Press FAQ

What is a straight side double crank press?

A closed-frame mechanical stamping press with two connections driving one long slide. The two points keep the slide level under off-center loads, which suits progressive dies.

Is a two point press the same as a double crank press?

Yes. Two point, double crank, double point and SSDC all describe a press with two connections to the slide.

Why use a double crank press for progressive dies?

Progressive dies are long and load the slide unevenly. Two connections keep the slide parallel to the bolster, protecting the die and holding part tolerances.

What is off-center load capacity?

How much load a press can safely take away from the center of the slide. On a two point press, each connection is rated for about half the press tonnage, so a load center far to one side can overload that connection.

Do you sell new double crank presses?

Yes. We sell new Komatsu straight side presses, including servo presses, alongside our used inventory.

Can I see a press run before I buy?

Ask for a video, or schedule an in-person inspection with your salesperson at our Jackson, Michigan or Columbia, Tennessee warehouse.

Do you buy used double crank presses?

Yes. We buy single presses, complete press lines and full plants. See sell your machinery or send us photos and the nameplate.

Inventory changes every week, and some presses arrive before they are listed. If you don't see the press you need, contact us with your tonnage, bed size, stroke, shut height and die details.
